1. Provider and scope
Docktopus is provided by Ronny Stiftel, trading as Stiftel IT, Kemptener Strasse 108, 88131 Lindau, Germany ("we", "us"). Contact us at [email protected]. Further provider information is available in our Imprint.
These terms govern the Docktopus software license and associated support and licensing services. They form the software provider's agreement for purchases made through Paddle. Please read them before purchasing or activating a license. Mandatory consumer rights remain unaffected.
2. Purchases through Paddle
Paddle acts as our authorized reseller and merchant of record. You buy from the Paddle entity identified at checkout and on your receipt. Paddle handles payment, applicable sales taxes, receipts, and payment refunds. We provide the software, license delivery, and product support.
The price, currency, and applicable taxes are shown before you confirm payment. The lifetime license is a one-time purchase with no recurring subscription charge. Paddle's Buyer Terms govern your transaction with Paddle; these terms govern your software license with us.
3. Your lifetime license
A paid license gives you a non-exclusive right to use Docktopus on two active Macs at a time for your own personal or business use. A license does not transfer ownership of the software or its intellectual property to you.
The right to use versions covered by your license has no fixed expiry date, provided the license remains valid and these terms are respected. Continued use requires compatible hardware and macOS, and the license validation described below. Lifetime use does not include an entitlement to every future release.
You may move your activation to another Mac. The limit of two active Macs still applies; activating a third Mac can deactivate the oldest active Mac. Keep your license key private and do not share it for use by unrelated purchasers.
4. Included updates
Your purchase includes 365 days of updates from the date your license is issued. Releases published within that period are covered by your license. The update eligibility date is recorded with your license.
After that period, you may continue using covered versions without a recurring license fee. Releases published later are not included unless separately offered to you. We do not promise a particular release schedule or that every requested feature will be added.
This included update period does not limit any obligation to provide security or other updates required by applicable consumer law.
5. Delivery, trial, and activation
Your license is delivered to the email address used at checkout. Use a working email address and contact support with your transaction details if delivery fails. Do not post your license key publicly.
You can try Docktopus before purchasing. The trial duration and status are shown in the app. Starting a trial does not itself create a paid subscription or authorize a payment.
An internet connection is required for trial validation, license activation, periodic license validation, and downloading updates. Activation records are used to enforce the device limit and verify entitlement. See our Data Privacy page for information about licensing and support data.
6. Compatibility and permissions
Check the system requirements shown for the release you download. Some features require macOS permissions, compatible hardware, another app, or access to a third-party service. Features that depend on a permission or service may be unavailable when it is not enabled or available.
You decide which optional features and permissions to enable. Keep appropriate backups of your data, particularly before changing system settings or using cleanup features. This does not reduce our responsibility or your statutory rights.
7. Permitted use and intellectual property
Use Docktopus lawfully and respect the rights of others. Do not bypass license checks, distribute license keys, resell unauthorized copies, or use the software to interfere with someone else's systems or data.
Do not copy, redistribute, modify, reverse engineer, or sublicense Docktopus except as expressly permitted by us, applicable law, or the license of a component. Rights granted by applicable law, including rights concerning interoperability and backup copies, remain unaffected. Third-party components remain subject to their own licenses and notices.
8. Support and third-party services
For product support, email [email protected] or use the support forms. Provide the app version, macOS version, and a description of the problem where relevant. We do not promise a fixed response time or continuous availability of online services.
Integrations with other apps and services depend on their availability and terms. Changes to macOS or a third-party service may affect an integration. Any statutory remedies for unavailable or defective agreed features remain unaffected.
9. Refunds and defective software
We offer a full refund if you request it within 14 calendar days of purchase, including after downloading, activating, or using Docktopus. No reason is required. Our separate Refund Policy explains how to request it.
This voluntary offer is additional to statutory withdrawal and defect remedies. Depending on the applicable law and circumstances, those remedies may include bringing the software into conformity, a price reduction, ending the contract, or damages. The 14-day voluntary refund period does not limit them.
10. Liability
We remain liable without limitation for intent, gross negligence, injury to life, body or health, fraudulent concealment, expressly assumed guarantees, and liability that cannot be limited under applicable law, including product liability.
For ordinary negligence, we are liable for a breach of an essential contractual obligation, limited to the foreseeable loss typical for the contract. An essential obligation is one needed to perform the contract and on which you may normally rely. Other liability for ordinary negligence is excluded only to the extent permitted by law. These limitations do not restrict mandatory consumer rights.
11. Ending a license and changes to these terms
A refunded or reversed purchase no longer provides a paid license entitlement. We may end a license for a material breach of these terms where legally permitted. Where required, we will give notice and a reasonable opportunity to remedy the breach before ending it.
New versions of these terms apply to future purchases. Posting an updated version does not by itself reduce the license rights or refund promise attached to an existing purchase. Changes to an existing agreement require your agreement or another lawful basis.
12. Governing law and consumer rights
German law governs your software license agreement with Stiftel IT. If you are a consumer, this choice does not deprive you of mandatory protections provided by the law that would otherwise apply, including protections in your country of habitual residence. Your statutory rights concerning competent courts remain unaffected.
The governing law for your purchase agreement with Paddle is addressed in Paddle's Buyer Terms. If a provision of these terms is invalid, applicable law governs that issue and the remaining provisions continue to apply.
